This is one of the many deceptions that Madison is the most famous for, which allows the artist to rip a corner from a selected playing card, the corner instantly vanishes and can be revealed absolutely anywhere.  Once the participant retrieves the corner it can be checked to match perfectly with the torn card...  No duplicates are used, the torn corner IS the very corner of the very same card.
